Account and security: password, 2FA, language

Under Settings › Account and Settings › Security & login, you manage your name and language, change your password and protect your account with two-factor login. You can’t change the login email in the app.

What’s under “Account”?

Settings › Account (title “Your account”) contains First name, Last name, Email and Phone number (optional). The email is grayed out: You can’t change the login email in the app. If you need a different address, write to us at jan@companycore.ai and we’ll tell you what’s possible. You save changes with Save at the top right, and the app reports “Saved ✓”. At the bottom, the Legal section has the links Privacy Policy, Terms and Imprint.

What is the “Three steps to go” bar?

As long as something is missing, the Three steps to go bar appears at the top of the Settings, with Your name, Company details and Pick a plan. The “x/3” counter shows how many steps are done. Continue jumps to the matching tab, and Hide closes the bar. What the company details are for is covered in Plans, pricing and invoices.

Language and appearance

companycore has three language settings. They have nothing to do with each other.

The three language settings
SettingWhere you find itWhat it changes
EN / DE togglebottom of the sidebarThe interface language, but only in this browser. The button always shows the other language: EN when German is active, DE when English is active.
Interface languageSettings › Account, Language & region sectionThe interface in German or English. It’s saved in your profile and also determines the language of notification emails.
Post languageBackstage › Text SettingsThe language in which core writes your posts. It has nothing to do with the interface.

More about the post language is in Text settings.

How do I switch between light and dark?

With the Light / Dark button at the bottom of the sidebar. Without a choice of your own, companycore follows your device’s system setting. Your own choice is remembered by the browser.

How do I change my password?

  1. Open Security & login. Go to Settings › Security & login, to the Password section.
  2. Enter your current password. The field is called Current password.
  3. Enter the new password twice. Type it into New password and Repeat new password.
  4. Click Change password. The app reports “Password changed — you’ll be signed in again”.
  5. Sign in again. After about 2 seconds, all sessions are ended. You land on the login page and sign in with the new password.

This applies to all devices: you’re logged out there as well afterward. If you’ve forgotten your password, the Forgot password? link on the login page helps. The steps are in Login problems.

What rules apply to the password?

  • At least 12 and at most 200 characters. If a message still says “at least 8 characters”, the rule of 12 applies anyway.
  • No requirement for special characters. What counts is how hard the password is to guess.
  • Your name and your email must not appear in it.
  • Typical words and patterns are rejected, for example “passwort” (German for password), “qwertz” (the German keyboard layout) or “companycore”.
  • The new password must be different from the old one.

Several words instead of special characters

If the app reports “Too easy to guess: made of known words. Add another word.”, that’s exactly the way to go: a longer sentence of several personal words is better than a short word with special characters.

How do I set up two-factor login?

Store recovery codes safely

Each of the 10 codes works only once, and companycore can’t show them to you again later. Keep them somewhere you can find them even if your phone is gone.

Generate new codes or turn off 2FA

  • New recovery codes generates a new set. The previous codes stop working.
  • Deactivate turns 2FA off. After that your password alone is enough again, and your recovery codes expire.

  1. Click the link. On the “Confirmation code” page, click Can't access the app?.
  2. Enter a code. Enter one of your recovery codes in Recovery code and click Redeem code.
  3. Set it up again. That switches two-factor login off. Log in and set it up again right away.

Why am I suddenly logged out?

An account can only be logged in on one device at a time. If you log in on a second device, the first one is logged out; the new one wins. There it says: “You were signed out because your account was signed in on another device. An account can only be used on one device at a time.” Several tabs in the same browser are allowed.
