Connect a YouTube channel and schedule Shorts

companycore publishes YouTube Shorts: vertical videos up to 3 minutes. You have to connect the Google account that owns the channel.

What you need before connecting

  • A YouTube channel. Without a channel of your own, create one on YouTube first. If the Google account has none, companycore reports: “Dieses Google-Konto hat keinen YouTube-Kanal.” (German system message, meaning: “This Google account has no YouTube channel.”)
  • The Google account that owns the channel. The app says: “Sign in with the Google account that owns the channel — Manager access from YouTube Studio doesn’t work.”
  • All checkmarks in the Google dialog. When connecting, leave all permissions checked, that is, upload and view channel.

For agencies and freelancers

If you only look after a client’s channel as a manager in YouTube Studio, you can’t connect it. In the Google dialog, the account that owns the channel has to sign in.

How to connect YouTube

You need the permission to connect accounts and an active plan. Who may do that is explained in Connect your first social media channel.

  1. Open Backstage. In the sidebar, click Backstage and then Connections.
  2. Click Connect YouTube. The whole page switches to Google, and no popup opens. Finish the process in the same browser.
  3. Sign in with the channel account. Sign in to Google with the account that owns the channel.
  4. Leave all checkmarks set. If a permission is missing, companycore reports: “Google hat nicht alle benötigten Berechtigungen erteilt …” (German system message, meaning: “Google did not grant all required permissions …”)
  5. Check in Backstage. The card shows Connected.

By connecting, you agree to the YouTube Terms of Service. For privacy, see our privacy policy and Google’s privacy policy. There is no fixed expiry date: the connection stays until you revoke access at Google or disconnect in companycore.

How to schedule a Short

In the publication editor in the Calendar, you choose the format Short. These rules then apply:

Fields and rules for YouTube Shorts
FieldRule
Video1 vertical video, at most 180 seconds. companycore rejects a video that is wider than it is tall: “Short video is wider than tall – YouTube requires a vertical video.”
TitleMandatory, at most 100 characters, no angle brackets (< and >). companycore prefills it with the first line of text.
DescriptionAt most 5,000 bytes, no angle brackets. Umlauts count double. The counter in the editor shows “… / 5000 Byte”.
VisibilityPublic (default), Unlisted or Private.
Made for kidsDefault: no.
Altered or synthetic contentcompanycore presets the switch automatically. YouTube has its own declaration for realistic-looking altered or synthetic content (YouTube Data API, retrieved October 13, 2026). More: AI labeling in companycore.
Distribution sectionAllow embedding on other websites and Notify subscribers, both on by default.
Cover imageYou can’t choose your own cover image for Shorts.

Note on the visibility “Private”

If the editor shows the note “Until the Google audit every upload stays private for good.”, uploads appear as Private regardless of your choice. If the note is missing, your choice under Visibility applies. Shorts published privately are marked like this in the receipt: “Posted privately – the video is only visible in your YouTube account.”

What YouTube specifies for Shorts

As of October 2026. Vertical videos up to 3 minutes count as Shorts. For videos between 1 and 3 minutes, this applies to uploads from October 15, 2024 (YouTube Help, retrieved October 13, 2026). The 180-second limit in companycore matches this. Three more rules:

  • Music: YouTube blocks Shorts over 1 minute with an active Content ID claim worldwide. They can then no longer be played, recommended or monetized. There is no strike for the channel for this (YouTube Help). More on music rights: Music in Reels and TikToks.
  • Links: In Shorts descriptions, links have not been clickable since the end of August 2023, according to Tubefilter (report of August 10, 2023, third-party source). Viewers can therefore only type out an address from the description.
  • Hashtags: If there are more than 60, YouTube ignores all of them. Above the title, YouTube shows at most 3 (YouTube Help). The counter in the editor recommends 3.

After the scheduled time

At the scheduled time, companycore uploads the video, and then YouTube processes it. Until then, the calendar shows Publishing. The note says: “Still being processed by YouTube – this can take a few minutes to a few hours.” You can neither change nor delete a published Short in companycore. That works in YouTube Studio.

Disconnect YouTube again

Click Disconnect on the card and confirm. You can disconnect at any time, even without an active plan. Videos that are already published stay on YouTube, and you can delete them in YouTube Studio. companycore revokes access at Google and deletes the channel data stored with us. Scheduled posts stay in the calendar but fail at their scheduled time.

Problems and solutions

Common messages (the first two appear in German only)
MessageWhat helps
“Dieses Google-Konto hat keinen YouTube-Kanal. …” (German; meaning: “This Google account has no YouTube channel. …”)Create the channel on YouTube first and then connect companycore again.
“Google hat nicht alle benötigten Berechtigungen erteilt (fehlt: …) — bitte beim Verbinden alle Haken (Hochladen + Kanal ansehen) gesetzt lassen.” (German; meaning: “Google did not grant all required permissions (missing: …) — please leave all checkmarks (upload + view channel) set when connecting.”)Connect again and leave all checkmarks set in the Google dialog.
“YouTube quota for today is used up — retrying after midnight (US Pacific time).”YouTube’s daily quota is used up. companycore tries again automatically afterward. Midnight on the US Pacific coast is usually around 9 a.m. in Germany.
“This video is already uploaded to or processing on YouTube — YouTube rejects the same clip as a duplicate.”This is only a note, not a block. If you upload the same clip again, YouTube rejects it. Check in YouTube Studio whether it is already there.
“Short video is wider than tall – YouTube requires a vertical video.”Export the video in vertical format and upload it again.
“Title can’t contain angle brackets (< or >).”Remove the brackets from the title. The same applies to the description.
“YouTube accepted the upload but returned no video id — please check in YouTube Studio whether the video exists, otherwise reschedule.”Check in YouTube Studio whether the video arrived before you reschedule. Otherwise a duplicate is created.

Frequently asked questions

Can I also upload long YouTube videos?

No. companycore only publishes Shorts. Videos over 3 minutes can’t be uploaded, even if YouTube allows more.

Can I choose a cover image for my Short?

No. There is no cover image choice for Shorts in companycore.

Why does my Short show up as “Private”?

Either you chose Private, or the editor shows the note about the Google audit. Then uploads appear as Private regardless of your choice.

I only manage the channel as a manager. Does it still work?

No. Manager access from YouTube Studio isn’t enough. Only the Google account that owns the channel can connect.

How often do I have to post Shorts for them to perform?

YouTube states in its help that there is no minimum frequency for good results (YouTube Help, retrieved October 13, 2026). What studies say about rhythm is in How often should a business post?.
