Social media content calendar 2027: template and occasions

A content calendar sets out which content appears on which platform and when. With fixed content pillars and the occasions of the year, you fill a whole quarter in about an hour.

As of October 13, 2026

The 2027 dates are calculated from the usual rules; the calculation is below. Check every date before you schedule a post. We update this page every October for the following year. Changes: October 13, 2026 – first version. Next review: October 2027.

What is a content calendar, and what does it do for you?

A content calendar is an overview that records which content appears on which platform and when. It is also called an editorial calendar or content plan.

It gives you three things: you pick topics ahead of time and not on a Friday evening under time pressure, you see gaps, such as a week without a post, and you prepare posts calmly. How often you should post is covered in How often should a business post?.

Which fields does a content calendar need?

The nine columns of a content calendar
FieldPurposeExample
DateWhen does the post go out?Tue, Mar 2
PlatformWhere does it appear?Instagram
FormatImage, carousel, Reel, Story or documentCarousel
Content pillarWhich topic area does the post belong to?Knowledge and tips
TopicWhat is it about, in one sentence?Three things to check before a heating service
CopyThe finished text or where the draft isDraft is in the Post Generator
Image or videoWhich material goes with it?Photos of the boiler room, folder “March”
StatusHow far along is the post?Idea, draft, approved or published
OwnerWho takes care of it?Anna

Copy these columns as a header row into an Excel or Google Sheets spreadsheet, one row per post. A small business doesn’t need more. Content ideas explains content pillars.

How do you fill a quarter in 60 minutes?

The times are guideline values for a business with one or two platforms and two to three posts per week.

  1. Set your pillars (10 minutes). Choose three to five topic areas, for example projects, knowledge, team and offers. Examples by industry are in Content ideas.
  2. Enter occasions (10 minutes). Copy the holidays and themed days from the table below that matter to you. Add your own dates: company vacation, trade fair, anniversary, start of the season.
  3. Choose a rhythm (5 minutes). Decide on which weekdays you post, for example Tuesdays and Fridays. As a guide from Buffer analyses (2025, correlation, no guarantee), aim for 2 to 5 posts per week and platform; details in How often should a business post?.
  4. Distribute topics (30 minutes). Place the occasions first, then spread your pillars so the same one never comes three times in a row. Content ideas supplies ideas for the open slots.
  5. Keep buffer posts ready (5 minutes). Plan three to five evergreen posts without a fixed date, such as an answer to a common customer question, a tool tip or the introduction of a colleague. They step in when a week falls through.

Which occasions are there in 2027?

The table lists public holidays, themed days and festive days with an idea of what you can make of them. The table is a selection, not a complete holiday calendar. To find out which public holidays apply in your German state (Bundesland), check your state’s holiday overview. Regional holidays apply only in individual states, so check whether they count for you. School vacations differ by state and year. Don’t copy them from guides; get the dates from the education ministries of your state.

From plan to post with companycore

The Calendar automatically shows German public holidays and themed days such as Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Black Friday, Advent, Halloween and the Day of the Trades. You add your own occasions with a right-click via Add a date; with Repeat every year, they come back each year. On free days, suggestions with Create now appear, which open a new post on that day. You write the topics yourself or have core write them; companycore doesn’t create a content calendar on its own.

Calendar in companycore, month view September 2026: on free days dashed tiles with Instagram or LinkedIn and Create now, on the 20th the themed day World Children’s Day (Weltkindertag), on the left the notice about missing publications
The Calendar in September 2026 (German interface): suggestion tiles with Create now on free days and a themed day on the 20th.

The Calendar suggests days, not times and not topics. By default it suggests 3 posts per week on weekdays and looks up to 42 days ahead. There is no filter for your state’s public holidays: you see the nationwide ones and the regional ones for all states.

How are the dates calculated?

  • Easter: Easter Sunday is March 28, 2027 under the Gregorian Easter rule. Good Friday is 2 days before, Easter Monday 1 day after, Ascension Day 39 days after, Whit Monday 50 days after and Corpus Christi 60 days after. Rose Monday is 48 days before.
  • Mother’s Day: the second Sunday in May, in 2027 May 9.
  • Black Friday: the day after Thanksgiving, the fourth Thursday in November, in 2027 November 26.
  • First Sunday of Advent: the fourth Sunday before December 25, in 2027 November 28.
  • Day of the Trades: We calculated it as the third Saturday in September, which is September 18, 2027. Check the date with your chamber of crafts (Handwerkskammer).
  • International Women’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Halloween and the other fixed dates fall on the same calendar day every year.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an Excel template to download?

This wiki doesn’t currently offer a ready-made file. The nine columns above are enough as a template: set them up as a header row in Excel or Google Sheets.

How far ahead should I plan?

As our rule of thumb: roughly a quarter ahead, and the next two weeks concretely with text and image. That way you stay flexible when something comes up.

Which bridge days are there in 2027?

Bridge days are the days between a public holiday and a weekend that many people take off. In 2027 these are the Friday after Ascension Day, May 7, and, where Corpus Christi applies, the Friday after it, May 28. Labor Day, German Unity Day and the Christmas holidays fall on a weekend in 2027.

Does the Calendar in companycore show my state’s public holidays?

It shows the nationwide and the regional holidays of all states; there is no filter by state. If an occasion is missing, add it yourself with Add a date.

When should I post?

Which time is worth it depends on your audience, and the big studies contradict each other. An overview is in Best time to post.
